Product guide
A manual call point is a red box on the wall that lets a person raise the fire alarm by hand. When someone sees a fire, they push or break the glass element, and the call point sends an alarm signal to the fire alarm panel, which sounds the sirens. It is a very important part of every fire alarm system, because people often see a fire before the detectors do. The break glass type has a small glass or plastic element in front of the button. You break or press it to trigger the alarm. Many modern call points use a resettable element, so you do not need to replace the glass after a test. A call point is placed near exits, on stairways and in corridors, at a height that is easy to reach, normally about 1.4m from the floor. Call points can be conventional or addressable, so pick the right type for your panel.

Place call points on exit routes, near each final exit and on each floor landing, so a person can reach one without walking far. Keep them clear of furniture and goods, and make sure they are easy to see. A common rule is that nobody should have to walk more than about 45 metres to reach one, but check your local fire code.
