Product guide
A gas leak detector warns you early when LPG or natural gas escapes into a room. A gas leak is dangerous because the gas can catch fire or explode when it meets a spark. The detector senses the gas in the air, and when the level rises above its set limit, it sounds a loud alarm and shows a warning light. This gives people time to open windows, switch off the gas and leave. Many models also have a relay output that can close a gas solenoid valve or start an exhaust fan, which makes the system even safer. Placement is very important. LPG is heavier than air, so it collects near the floor, and the detector should be low on the wall. Natural gas is lighter than air, so it rises, and the detector should be high on the wall or near the ceiling. This detector is used in home kitchens, restaurants, hotels, canteens and gas storage rooms.
Gas density decides the position. LPG is heavier than air, so the detector should be about 30cm from the floor and within about 4m of the gas appliance. Natural gas is lighter than air, so the detector should be near the ceiling, within about 4m of the appliance. Keep it away from fans, windows, steam and cooking fumes, because they can disturb the reading or cause false alarms.
