Product guide
The 9 litre AFFF foam fire extinguisher is a good choice for places with both solid and liquid fire risks. AFFF stands for aqueous film forming foam. The foam spreads over the fire, cools it, and forms a film that stops vapour from rising and the fire from starting again. It works on Class A fires, such as wood, paper, cloth and plastic, and on Class B fires, such as petrol, oil and paint. A typical 9 litre unit has a fire rating of 21A and 183B, and some makers list 27A and 183B, so check the label of your unit. It is a stored pressure unit, which means it is always ready and has a gauge. A full unit weighs about 14kg, discharges for about 15 to 50 seconds depending on the model, and reaches about 4 metres.

Foam is water based, so it is not meant for live electrical equipment, even though many foam units pass a 35kV electrical test for operator safety. If a fire involves live equipment, switch off the power if you can do so safely, and use a CO2 or powder unit. Also remember that a standard AFFF unit is not made for deep cooking oil fires. Use a fire blanket or a unit rated for Class F.
