Product guide
5kg CO2 fire extinguisher is a larger carbon dioxide unit for places with a higher fire risk and valuable electrical equipment. CO2 works by cooling the fire and pushing oxygen away from it, and it leaves no residue when the gas goes away. That means panels, generators, computers and machines are not damaged by the extinguishing agent. It is rated for Class B fires, such as petrol, diesel and oil, and it is used on live electrical equipment. It is not rated for Class A fires, such as wood and paper. Ratings for 5kg units vary by maker and run from 55B to 89B, so read the label of your unit. A typical 5kg unit gives a discharge of about 9 to 15 seconds, a range of about 3 to 5 metres, and weighs about 11 to 14kg when full. Most 5kg models use a hose and horn for easier aiming.
CO2 is excellent for electrical and liquid fires, but it does not work on Class A fires. Many sites keep a CO2 unit with a foam or powder unit, so that every kind of fire is covered. For example, a generator room may use a 5kg CO2 for electrical and fuel fires, and a 6kg DCP for general fires nearby.
