Product guide
The 2kg CO2 fire extinguisher is made for places with electrical equipment, where water or powder could cause damage. It is filled with carbon dioxide gas, which cools the fire and pushes oxygen away from it. When the gas disappears, it leaves no residue, so computers, panels and machines are not harmed. CO2 is rated for Class B fires, which means flammable liquids such as petrol and oil, and it is also used on live electrical equipment. It is not rated for Class A fires, such as wood and paper, so for mixed risks, many sites keep a CO2 unit next to a foam or powder unit. Common 2kg models have a 34B rating, a discharge time of about 6 to 10 seconds and a range of about 3 to 5 metres. A frost-free horn protects your hand from the cold gas.
CO2 is safe for equipment, but it needs care. The gas can cause cold burns, so hold the horn by its handle and never touch the bare metal. In a small closed room, CO2 can reduce the oxygen you breathe, so use it only in a space you can ventilate, and leave the room after use. Because CO2 does not leave a cooling layer, a fire can restart, so keep watching the area after the flames go out.
Is CO2 safe on electrical equipment?
Yes. CO2 does not conduct electricity and leaves no residue.
Can it put out a wood or paper fire?
It is not rated for Class A fires. Use foam, water or powder for those.
Why is the horn frost-free?
The gas is very cold, and the horn protects your hand.
How long does it discharge?
About 6 to 10 seconds.
Is it safe in a small room?
Use it with ventilation and leave the room after use.
Does it have a gauge?
Many CO2 units have no pressure gauge, so check by weight as the maker advises.
