Product guide
An alarm check valve is the main control valve at the base of a wet pipe sprinkler system. It does two jobs. It works as a check valve, so water can flow into the sprinkler pipework but cannot flow back. And it raises an alarm when a sprinkler opens. When a sprinkler head operates, water starts to flow through the valve, and the valve clapper lifts. Some of the flow goes to an alarm line, where it can sound a water motor gong outside the building and trigger a pressure switch that signals the fire alarm panel. A retard chamber helps prevent false alarms from small pressure surges in the water supply. This 4 inch (DN100) riser valve suits the main riser of a sprinkler system for a floor or a zone. It is installed with trim parts, which include pressure gauges, a drain, a test valve and the alarm fittings, so check what is included with your unit.
When a sprinkler head opens, water flows through the alarm check valve. The flow lifts the valve clapper and opens a path to the alarm port. Water then runs to the water motor gong and the pressure switch, so people hear the gong, and the fire alarm panel gets a signal. When the flow stops, the alarm line drains. A retard chamber collects small surges so that they do not trigger a false alarm.
