Product guide
A breeching inlet is the connection point where the fire brigade pumps water into a building’s dry riser. It sits at ground level on the outside wall, so firefighters can reach it fast without going inside. This two-way breeching inlet has two 2.5 inch male instantaneous inlets, built to BS 336, so two hoses from the fire engine can connect at the same time and double the flow. Each inlet has a non-return valve, which stops water from flowing back out, and a drain valve lets the pipe empty after use. Both ends of the unit are painted red for easy recognition. The outlet is a 4 inch (100mm) flange, and the unit fits a 4 inch dry riser. These units are made to BS 5041 Part 3, and typical models have a working pressure of 10 bar with a test pressure of 20 bar. A two-way inlet is used with a 4 inch riser, while a 6 inch riser needs a four-way inlet.
A dry riser is a pipe that runs up the building and stays empty until the fire brigade connects. They pump water into the breeching inlet, and the water rises to the landing valves on each floor. For this to work, the inlet must be easy to find, clean and clear of obstacles, and the system must be tested regularly.
