Product guide
Feet take a lot of punishment at work. A dropped pipe, a rolling drum or a loaded trolley can crush toes in a second. Steel-toe safety boots put a hard cap over your toes so the load hits the cap and not your foot. Safety footwear made to EN ISO 20345 has a toe cap tested at 200 joules of impact. Above that base level, the class letters tell you what else the boot does. S1 adds a closed heel, antistatic properties, a shock-absorbing heel and a fuel-resistant sole. S1P adds a penetration-resistant midsole against nails and sharp scrap. S3 adds water resistance in the upper and a cleated outsole for grip on mud. Look at the label on your pair to see its class, because the classes are not the same.
Dry indoor work with no sharp scrap is fine with S1. If nails, screws or metal offcuts lie on the floor, pick S1P or S3 for the midsole. If you work on wet ground or outdoors, S3 is the better fit. A boot with more features is not always better, so choose by the job.
What does a 200 joule toe cap mean?
It is tested against a 200 joule impact.
What is the difference between S1 and S1P?
S1P also has a midsole that resists penetration by sharp objects.
Are they waterproof?
Only S3 and higher classes resist water at the upper. Check your label.
Do they protect from electric shock?
They are antistatic, which is not the same as electrical insulation.
How do I choose the size?
Use the size chart and test with work socks.
When should I replace them?
After a heavy impact, or when the sole or cap is worn or damaged.
