Product guide
A solar geyser heats your water with sunlight, so you use less gas or electricity for hot water. This model has 18 evacuated glass tubes and a 180 liter insulated tank. Each tube is a double glass tube with a vacuum between the layers, a bit like a thermos flask. Sunlight passes through the outer glass and heats the inner tube, and the vacuum keeps the heat in, even on cooler days. The heated water rises into the tank at the top, where it is stored. A thick insulation layer around the tank keeps the water hot for many hours, including through the evening and the next morning. A 180 liter unit suits an average family home, and it can supply showers, kitchen use and washing. Pakistan gets strong sun for most of the year, which makes solar heating a good fit. In cloudy or very cold weather the output drops, so many homes keep a backup, such as an electric heating element or the existing geyser.
Place the geyser on a flat, strong roof or platform with a clear view of the sun, away from shade from walls, trees or tanks. In Pakistan the panel should face south and sit at a tilt that suits your location, often close to the latitude angle. A non-pressurised unit needs a cold water tank placed above it, so the water can flow down by gravity. Ask your installer to check your roof strength, as a full tank is heavy.
How many people is 180 liters enough for?
It suits an average family home. Real use depends on how much hot water you use each day.
Does it work in winter?
Yes, evacuated tubes work in cool weather, but output is lower on cloudy days.
Do I need a backup heater?
Many homes add one for cloudy spells. An electric element is often available.
Do hard water and scale matter?
Hard water can leave scale inside tubes and tank. Ask about water treatment in your area.
What if a tube breaks?
Tubes can be replaced one at a time.
How do I clean it?
Wipe the glass with water and a soft cloth when the tubes are cool.
