Product guide
A landing valve is the hose connection point on a building’s riser pipe. Firefighters or trained staff connect the fire hose to the valve, and then open it to get water. This 2.5 inch landing valve is made from brass, which resists corrosion, and it is an oblique type, which means the outlet sits at an angle for a smooth water flow. The outlet is a 2.5 inch female instantaneous coupling to BS 336, the common fire hose standard, with a cap and chain. The inlet connects to the riser, and flanged inlets to BS 4504 PN16 or threaded inlets are available, so check which one you need. Valves of this type are made to BS 5041 Part 1 for wet risers, where the pipe is always filled with water. Typical models are tested at 16.5 bar at the seat and 22.5 bar for the body, and they can deliver about 8.5 litres per second at 4 bar outlet pressure.
A wet riser is always filled with water and under pressure, so a trained person can open the valve and get water at once. A dry riser is empty until the fire brigade pumps water into it. The valve type must suit the riser, so check the standard and the pressure rating before you buy.
