Product guide
Canvas fire hose pipe carries water from a hydrant or pump to the fire. It is 30 metres long and has a 2.5 inch (about 63.5mm) bore, the standard size for fire hydrant systems. The hose is made from tough woven canvas, which is strong, flexible and resistant to rubbing on rough ground. It comes with a coupling at each end, so you can connect it to a landing valve, a hydrant, a pump or another length of hose, and then fit a branch pipe on the far end. When the water flows, the hose swells into a round tube. When it is empty, it lies flat, so it is easy to fold, roll and store in a cabinet or on a fire truck. A 30 metre length gives you good reach from a hydrant point. Canvas hose is used in buildings, factories, depots, ports and fire services. Canvas can seep a little when it is new, which is normal, and it needs to be dried after use to stay in good condition.
Canvas hose needs a little care to last. After use, wash off dirt and mud, drain it, and hang it to dry in the shade before you roll it. Storing a wet hose can cause mould and weaken the fabric. Test the hose regularly, and replace it if you see cuts, worn patches or leaking couplings.
