Product guide
A jockey pump is a small pump that keeps a fire fighting system filled and under pressure. Every fire system has tiny leaks at valves and joints, and small pressure changes from the water supply. Without a jockey pump, these small drops in pressure would start the large main fire pump again and again, which wears it out and wastes power. The jockey pump takes care of these small changes. When the pressure falls slightly, the jockey pump starts and brings it back up. If the pressure keeps falling, because a sprinkler or hose valve has opened, the main fire pump starts. This 3 HP unit is a small, quiet pump, normally a multistage type, with an electric motor and a pressure switch. It is used in fire systems for buildings, factories and campuses. Its flow rate and pressure depend on the model, so match them to your system.
A fire pump room usually has three parts. The jockey pump keeps the pipe full and pressurised. The electric main pump starts when pressure falls fast. The diesel pump is the backup if the electric power fails. The jockey pump is set to start at a slightly higher pressure than the main pump, so it takes care of small drops, and the main pump starts only if the pressure keeps falling.
