Product guide
A fire sprinkler head is the part of a sprinkler system that actually puts out the fire. The head sits at the end of a water pipe. A small glass bulb filled with liquid holds the water back. When a fire heats the air, the liquid expands and breaks the bulb at a set temperature, and water sprays out over the fire. Only the head that is close to the heat opens, so the water goes where it is needed, and it limits water damage. This sprinkler head has a 1/2 inch (about 15mm) connection and comes in two types. The pendent type hangs down from the pipe under a ceiling. The upright type points up from the top of the pipe, and the spray bounces off the deflector, which suits open ceilings and exposed pipe. The colour of the glass bulb shows the temperature rating, and a red bulb is common for ordinary rooms.
Use a pendent sprinkler when the pipe runs above a finished ceiling, and the head hangs down below it. Use an upright sprinkler when the pipe is exposed, such as in a warehouse, and the head points up from the pipe. The two types have different spray patterns, so do not swap them. A pendent head placed in the upright position will not spray correctly.
