DCP Fire Extinguisher 6kg – ABC Dry Chemical Powder

The 6kg DCP fire extinguisher is the most common size for shops, offices, warehouses and factories. It is filled with ABC dry chemical powder, which is rated for Class A fires (wood, paper, cloth and plastic), Class B fires (petrol, oil and other flammable liquids) and Class C fires (flammable gases). It can also be used on fires started by electrical equipment. The 6kg size gives a good balance. It holds enough powder to fight a developing fire, but it is still light enough for one person to carry and use. Makers list a discharge time of about 19 seconds and a throw range of about 4 to 5 metres, so you can stand a safe distance from the flames. The typical fire rating for this size falls between 27A and 43A for solids and between 183B and 233B for liquids, depending on the maker.

Where Dry Powder Works Best

Dry powder is a strong all-round choice for open areas such as shops, warehouses, loading docks and garages. It acts fast on flammable liquid fires, which is useful near fuel and oil. In a small closed room, the powder cloud can reduce visibility and cause coughing, so it is best used where you can ventilate or move away quickly. Powder also leaves residue that is corrosive to electronics, so use CO2 or clean agent for IT rooms.
