Product guide
The DCP fire extinguisher in 1kg and 2kg sizes is a small and light first aid extinguisher for homes, cars, shops and offices. DCP stands for dry chemical powder. This type is called ABC, which means it works on three kinds of fires: Class A (wood, paper, cloth and plastic), Class B (flammable liquids such as petrol and oil) and Class C (flammable gases). It can also be used on fires that start from electrical equipment. The small size is easy to hold, so one person can pick it up fast and use it with a squeeze grip. The 1kg unit is a common choice for a car, and the 2kg unit suits a kitchen, a workshop corner or a small shop. Makers list discharge times of about 8 to 13 seconds, so you should aim at the base of the fire and act quickly.
Dry powder puts out fires very fast, but it has two downsides. The powder makes a cloud that reduces visibility, so it is not good for a small closed room where you need to see your exit. It also leaves a sticky, corrosive residue that can damage electronics. For server rooms and delicate equipment, a CO2 or clean agent extinguisher is a better choice.
