The 50kg DCP fire trolley is a heavy duty wheeled extinguisher for large industrial sites. It holds 50kg of dry chemical powder on a trolley, with a long hose and a nozzle, so one person can roll it to the fire and use it. It is made for places where a fire could spread quickly, such as factories, fuel stores, warehouses, power rooms, workshops and loading areas. ABC powder works on Class A fires (solids), Class B fires (flammable liquids) and Class C fires (flammable gases). Some models are BC only, so check the label for your unit. Makers list a discharge time of about 37 to 50 seconds, a throw range of about 7 to 11 metres and a hose of about 3 to 5 metres. A 50kg unit replaces several portable extinguishers, but it is heavy, with a full weight of about 77 to 120kg, so it needs a clear, level path.
A portable 6kg unit gives about 19 seconds of fire fighting. A 50kg trolley gives up to about 50 seconds and reaches much further, so you can tackle a bigger fire from a safe distance. In a site with a high fire risk, the trolley gives staff a stronger first response while the fire service is on the way. It must be kept in a clear spot, with a clear path, and staff must be trained to use it.
