Samyang AF 35mm F1.8 FE – Compact Street Photography Lens

The Samyang AF 35mm F1.8 FE sits right between two other Samyang lenses, giving the light weight of the brand's F2.8 lens along with much more of the brightness found in its bigger F1.4 lens. At just 210g and 63.5mm long, it is easy to carry all day, yet it still delivers sharp, clear images right into the corners of the frame at F1.8. The 35mm focal length is one of the most loved lengths for street photography, since it gives a natural, wide view without bending the scene the way an ultra wide lens can. Ten glass elements, including aspherical and extra low dispersion pieces, keep colours true and details crisp. A quiet Linear STM motor drives autofocus, and weather sealing at four key points protects the lens from dust, rain and snow during outdoor shoots.

Build Quality and What It's Made Of

• Built with 10 glass elements in 8 groups, including 2 extra-low dispersion and 2 aspherical elements
• Weighs 210g and measures 63.5mm long, one of the lightest 35mm lenses for Sony full frame
• Weather sealed at 4 points to resist dust, rain and snow
• Uses a 58mm filter thread for standard screw-in filters

The 35mm View Loved by Street Photographers

• Gives a natural 63.6 degree view on full frame Sony cameras
• Becomes roughly a 52.5mm equivalent lens on Sony APS-C bodies
• Wide enough to capture a scene, yet close enough to keep a natural perspective

Sharp Results Even at F1.8

• Nine rounded aperture blades create smooth, soft background blur
• Corner to corner sharpness holds up well even with the aperture wide open
• Aspherical and extra low dispersion elements reduce blur and colour fringing across the frame

Fast Focusing for Photos and Video

The Linear STM motor inside this lens is built to be both quick and quiet, which matters just as much for video as it does for stills. Because the motor makes very little noise, it won't get picked up by an on-camera microphone during recording, and its smooth focus pulls look natural rather than jumpy. This makes the lens a solid pick for photographers who also shoot video content on the same camera body.
