Product guide
The Acti9 iPRF is a series of type 1 surge protective devices. A type 1 device is built to handle the strong current of a direct lightning strike. It is installed at the main entry of a building, in the first board after the supply. It is the right choice for buildings with a lightning rod, or buildings fed by an overhead line. In these places the surge can be much stronger than normal. The iPRF1 12.5r handles a lightning impulse current of 12.5kA between phase and neutral, and 50kA between neutral and earth. It is a combined type 1 and type 2 device, so it also protects against the smaller surges that follow. A remote signalling contact can warn your control system of a fault.
Q1: What is the difference between iPRF and iPRD?
The iPRF handles direct lightning current (type 1). The iPRD handles the surges that remain (type 2).
Q2: Where do I install it?
In the main board where the supply enters the building.
Q3: Do I need a disconnect device?
Yes. A fuse or breaker must be fitted in front of it.
Q4: What does 10/350µs mean?
It is the test wave that represents the current of a direct lightning strike.
