Product guide
The Acti9 iPRD is a series of type 2 surge protective devices, often called SPDs. A surge is a short, strong rise in voltage. It can come from lightning that strikes far away, or from switching on the supply network. Surges can damage computers, drives, lighting and other sensitive equipment. The iPRD installs in the distribution board and sends the surge to earth before it reaches your loads. The series offers 20kA, 40kA and 65kA models, so you can match the device to the risk level at your site. The cartridges are plug-in, so after a heavy surge you replace only the cartridge, not the whole unit. The “r” versions have a remote signalling contact that can warn your control system. A DC version is available for solar systems.
Q1: What is a type 2 SPD?
It protects the board from surges that get past the main entry point.
Q2: How do I know when to replace the cartridge?
The window shows a white or red flag. The r models also send a signal.
Q3: Which Imax should I choose?
Use 20kA for medium risk, 40kA for high risk and 65kA for very high risk sites.
Q4: Do I need a breaker in front of it?
Yes. Use the disconnect device listed in the product guide.
