Product guide
The Samyang AF 12mm F2 RF-S is a small, light lens made only for Canon APS-C cameras such as the EOS R7 and R50. It gives a very wide view of 96.8 degrees, so it fits a lot into one frame, which is why it suits landscapes, buildings, tight rooms and star photos. The bright F2 aperture lets in plenty of light, so photos stay clear even at night or indoors. Inside, the lens uses 12 pieces of glass in 10 groups, with special elements that stop the picture from looking blurry or coloured wrong at the edges. A new Linear STM motor makes focusing fast and almost silent, which also helps when filming video. At just 213g and 57.2mm long, it is one of the lightest wide lenses you can put on a small Canon camera.

The F2 aperture is what makes this lens stand out among wide angle lenses for APS-C cameras. A wider aperture like F2 lets more light reach the sensor, so you can take clear photos in dim rooms, at dusk, or under the stars without pushing your camera's ISO too high. It also gives a shallow depth of field, so the subject in front stands out from a soft, blurred background, which most ultra wide lenses cannot do well. Seven rounded aperture blades also shape a pleasing round blur and a nice star-burst effect on points of light, adding a creative touch to night photos.
Three extra low dispersion elements and two aspherical elements work together inside the lens to stop colour fringing, blur and warped lines, which are common problems in wide angle lenses. This means straight lines, like walls or door frames, stay straight instead of curving at the edge of the photo, and colours stay true from the centre right out to the corners. This matters a lot for architecture and interior photos, where crooked lines are easy to spot and hard to fix later.
This lens is made only for the Canon RF-S mount, which is the APS-C line of Canon mirrorless cameras. It connects directly with no adapter needed and supports the camera's own autofocus and image tracking systems. Because it is a native RF-S lens, it also balances well on gimbals and small tripods, which matters for anyone doing handheld video or vlogging with an APS-C Canon body.
Q1: Does this lens work on Canon full-frame cameras?
No, it is made only for Canon's APS-C RF-S mount, such as the EOS R7, R10 and R50, and is not built for full-frame RF cameras.
Q2: Can I use this lens to take pictures of the stars at night?
Yes, it is a good choice for night sky and star photography due to its bright F2 aperture and low distortion design.
Q3: Does it have stabilisation?
No, the lens has no stabilisation of its own, so it relies on the camera body’s stabilisation (if the camera has it).
Q4: How close can I focus using this lens?
You can focus down to 0.2 metres for those creative close up wide angle shots.
