• Lens Construction: 12 elements in 9 groups, featuring LD (Low Dispersion) and Aspherical elements to control chromatic and spherical aberrations.

• Optical Quality: The lens is generally sharpest in the center, particularly when stopped down to around f/5.6 or f/8. Wide open (at f/3.5) and in the extreme corners, images can appear softer. It also struggles slightly with chromatic aberration and lens flare when shooting into bright light. 

• Build & Focus: It relies on older autofocus drive motors in the lens body, which can be somewhat noisy and slow compared to modern silent motors. The zoom range is highly versatile, providing a wider maximum zoom than many competing ultra-wide lenses in its class.
